E.J. Mertaugh Boat Works is a full-service boat yard specializing in the maintenance and restoration of antique wooden boats. We sell new and used boats, motors and trailers. We are an authorized dealer of Boston Whaler, DuraNautic and Avon boats as well as Johnson/Evinrude motors. You'll find us right on Hessel Bay in the Les Cheneaux Island, in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

 We're working hard to protect the beautiful Snows area. Here are some of the precautions we take to preserve the environment:
• Recycle oil, old fuel and coolants.
• Use biodegradable boat cleaner.
• Fiberglass and paint work is done inside.
• Storm water run-off filtered by gravel.
• Use tarps under sanding and paint scraping.
• Employees perform fuel dispensing, no self-serve.
• No gas cans allowed on docks.
• On-site certified Industrial Storm Water Operator.

The Great Lakes Boat Building School, located in the beautiful Les Cheneaux Islands of northern Michigan, offers a quality educational program designed to “teach quality wooden boat building skills and to preserve craftsmanship”.
